Veterans cane from George C. H. Collins of the 27th Connecticut Infantry. He served until being captured at Chancellorsville Virginia and was paroled by May 14, 1863 to go fight in the battle of Gettysburg where are the regiment saw action. The regiment mustered out in late July and he reenlisted with the First Connecticut heavy artillery. After the war right around the turn of the century, it appears he left Connecticut and came to Florida living with his son in Titusville in 1910. The cane appears to be made out of palm tree wood, which I thought was very cool and a great tie to Florida! I believe he lived until the 1920s, but I am unable to find any other records of him after that, he most likely is buried somewhere down in Florida!
