ID'ed Mississippi Confederate Solar Enlargement Photo in A Ornate Frame!
This image is out of my personal image collection and has always been one of my favorites! This is a photo I picked up at the Southhaven, Mississippi show three years ago from a gentlemen who picked it straight out of Mississippi. The photo is of William J. McCluskey who served as a Confederate Soldier in the 2nd Regiment, Mississippi State Cavalry Co. D. The Mississippi 2nd Cavalry Regiment [also called 4th and 42nd Regiment] was organized during the spring of 1863. It was formerly the 47th Mississippi Infantry Regiment, which never completed its organization. Its members were from the counties of Adams, Choctaw, Newton, Lee, Lauderdale, Pontotoc, Kemper, and Hinds. The unit was assigned to W. Adams', Mabry's, and F.C. Armstrong's Brigade. After skirmishing in Mississippi it saw action in various conflicts in North Georgia and Alabama. Some of the men were captured in the fight at Selma, and only a remnant surrendered with the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana. McCluskey following the war moved to Tippah County, Mississippi working as a farmer before moving to Calhoun County, Mississippi and passing way in 1906 being buried in
Cross Roads Cemetery Slate Spring, Calhoun County, Mississippi.
The Frame measures approximatly 22 by 26 inchs. The photo has the inscription "Mr. and Mrs. Williams McCluskey"on the back of the wood backing.
