Howard E. "Shorty" Creel, 60, who died Monday at his home in San Diego, Calif., where he had lived since 1946. Burial is planned In Colyer Cemetery near Lone Star, in the area where Mr. Creel was born Dec. 30, 1896. Survivors include his wife, the former Prudence Martin of the home at 3733 Villa Ter., San Diego; a son, Howard Creel Jr., Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Collinson, 1926 Maine, Lawrence, and Mrs. Sharon McCullough, San Diego; two brothers, Rankin, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and James, Escondido, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Mary Seeholser, Soquel, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Creel moved to Lawrence at an early age, and after attending Lawrence Business College, he was a salesman for Barteldes Seed Co., Jenny Wren Mills and Bankers Life. He served during World War I in Battery B of the 130th Field Artillery, the 35th Army Division, and while in Lawrence, he was active in the Cooperative Club, the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church.
